Autism treatments: Risky alternative therapies have little basis in science

One in 100 U.S. children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder by age 8, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That figure has increased in recent decades, though experts do not know whether more children actually have autism or more cases are being diagnosed.

There are no cures for the disorder, which is characterized by communication problems, difficulties interacting socially, and rigid, repetitive behavior.

Researchers do not know what causes most cases of autism. They suspect the diagnosis actually applies to different disorders that create similar symptoms, but in most cases scientists cannot yet tell one from another. Research has yielded clues, but the search for hard answers continues.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It seems ludicrous to try to remove mercury from a child's body with chelation....the damage was done when the vaccine was administered.

"Chelation's popularity as a treatment for autism is driven by the unproven idea that the disorder is tied to accumulation of heavy metals in the body. Mercury, once common in vaccines as part of a preservative called thimerosal, is often pegged as the culprit.
"
"Yet the federal Institute of Medicine reported in 2004 that a review of dozens of studies had failed to show a link between vaccines, thimerosal and autism. Subsequent studies also found no connection. After thimerosal was removed from childhood vaccines except for some flu shots, autism diagnoses continued to rise."

Last spring, after hearing hundreds of hours of testimony, three "special masters" presiding over vaccine court ruled conclusively that they found the argument that the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and thimerosal cause autism unpersuasive.

"Sadly, the petitioners in this litigation have been the victims of bad science, conducted to support litigation rather than to advance medical and scientific understanding of autism spectrum disorder," special master Denise Vowell wrote.

More likely autism is caused by the multiple combinations of vaccines injected at the same time along with heavy metal and other contaminates.

"More likely autism is caused by the multiple combinations of vaccines injected at the same time along with heavy metal and other contaminates."

That is the best concise statement that can describe what is a root cause. The only other theory that's been proposed and not accepted by the scientific community et al is that the human brain is evolving and there will be errors. If you add the statement plus the theory, then that could be part of the answer. There is no possbile way to document that with the exception of total genetic testing of the mother and father prior to conception and isolation and monitoring during gestation and subsequent careful screening of the baby, I would think. Way not going to happen in our lifetime.

Yet, that doesn't explain how some babies are born that have all of the vaccinations and yet are supposedly fine to date. The reporting and diagnostics of autism and varying levels is sadly lacking too. If in the future medical records could be computerized for this possibly better numbers could be gotten as to actual case diagnostics and treatments.

Infants that are breast feed most likely posses a stronger immune system that is protective from inflammation and toxins. An infant fed formula that contains soy, cow milk, sugar, and a few nutrients (synthetic) will most likely not be protected when injected with more crap.

How do we know that GMO soy in infant formula isn't a big player here? No studies!

1 in 100...... some say 1 in 50 children are damaged!!!!!!!!!!

All I'm asking for are studies...so questions can be answered.

I wasn't hoaxing....Have a family member that has child that is autistic and she is having the devil of a time getting help and care. We've been doing a lot of studying and there isn't any one thing that is going to fix it. It's a wide open subject in desperate need of individual medical/physical documentation to aid in research and not just a few children in a clinical study. That's because not all children are helped by one pill or one anything. There are also different levels of autism and that is clouding the issue too. That is why I support computerized medical records for any and all children diagnosed or thought to have autism thank you
