Is modern medicine actually "scientific"? The gold standard for modern medicine is the double-blind and placebo-controlled trial. But there are serious problems with these studies, unknown to most, but widely acknowledged by researchers.

“One of the things that have come out recently about some of the antidepressant research is that it’s amazing how many studies had negative results but they are almost never published. Only the ones with the positive results are published and according to the FDA, drug companies only need to have two positive studies.
They can have 18 negative studies but if you have just two positive studies, that’s enough for acceptance. That’s a serious problem.” Dana Ullman, MPH

That is why people have to do their research. As a nurse I encourage my patients to find out as much as they can about the medications that they take and the side effects. But most of the time I cannot even get my patients to even keep a list of the medications they are on and the doses. The common response that I get is "it's in my file". Well your file is at your doctors office or at the pharmacy you go to and they are both closed.
People need to take a proactive approach to their health care. So much information is available now. This is just no excuse for not knowing your medications.

Hard for me to remember the stupid names they put on meds....hmmm is it avandia...viagra...how many anagrams can they throw at us. And if these people knew what was in the meds and their side effects... they would most likely refuse treatment.
