Discredited autism researcher Dr. Andrew Wakefield said Wednesday at a " vaccination choice" rally in Grant Park that he planned to resume his research in the U.S.

At the rally, held in conjunction with a conference hosted by the organizations Generation Rescue and Autism One, Wakefield said national vaccine policies had failed children and their families and it was time for "science and medicine to stand up for itself."

'Rally organizer Louise Kuo Habakus told the group that parents who question the safety of vaccines often are unfairly labeled.'

"We are not anti-vaccine," she said vehemently. "We are in favor of choice. We are pro-vaccination choice."

'Maureen Drummond, co-founder and co-director of the New Jersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice, said before the rally that parents' rights to make decisions on behalf of their children are being eroded.'

"Vaccination choice is not just a health issue. It's a personal rights issue," Drummond said.

I find my ability to evaluate this doctor is somewhat compromised. There was a time when I would have taken sanctioning from the Lancet as a clear indictment. That time is past. In general, I'm against forced vaccination unless there is a disease representing a clear threat to huge numbers of people. Yes, I know that's hard to ascertain these days.

Many of the illnesses that have mandated vaccines do not have the same threat that they did many years ago due to modern medicine & hygiene. In fact, vast improvements in hygiene & access to clean water is what has nearly erradicated many of these illnesses...NOT the vaccines as the CDC & AAP will have you believe. Many people will argue this because many of these illnesses are still very prevalent in less developed countries. These individuals (vaccine-promoters) usually fail to acknowledge that living conditions are much different in those areas than here in the US. Also, there have been many outbreaks among people that are fully immunized according to CDC standards & "requirements." Proponents generally ignore these facts though.

People need to get sick sometimes. Sickness promotes immunity. It's just the way of nature.

That certain illnesses strengthen the immune system is quite true. What we are doing now is creating a synthetically "healthy" population ripe for a pandemic.

Anyone who gos against the system risks getting discredited. The greatest geniuses often are pushed down by people with money and power. We would be enjoying free electricity right now if not for the discrediting powerf money mongers and this thing with the glf of mexico would not be happening

I think people ought to have the right to choose what goes into their body and the bodis of their children.
