No protective gear, no antitoxicants: Medical experts study human health effects of BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico

The oil is inescapable to the people of the Gulf Coast. Cleanup workers burn it at sea, skim it in boats. Residents smell its sheen, pick up its puddles and tar balls with shovels. Tourists sometimes let their kids swim in it.

What is the oil doing to human health? What about the chemicals used to disperse it?

Health officials don't know yet.

Of course they refuse to provide protective gear and information...such as the use of charcoal as a natural and safe antitoxicant. http://thoughtstoliveby.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/health-benefits-of-charcoal/

Because activated charcoal adsorbs instead of being absorbed into your body, it can be used without fear of toxic load. Use it when most exposed and take two consecutive days off (like on weekends)...if concerned. Consult with physician since charcoal 'will' affect medications and nutrition. Supplement with a naturally sourced multivitamin...stay away from synthetic vitamins....no worky..

``Some scientists say there's little or no toxicity from the oil,''

Are you kidding me? These are people who flunked science?

I can understand reasonable differences of opinion in science, but they are just lying, and they know it. I believe that is criminal.

Glad to see that someone is looking into this, but I agree that the hedging with respect to the toxicity of crude oil is a bit ridiculous. I have a sneaking suspicion that we are looking at is an environmental cesspool, and that, as with the 9/11 rescue and clean-up workers, we will be seeing the health effects of clean-up workers being exposed to toxins without adequate protective equipment for years to come. It's a disgrace. The government should be providing (or requiring BP to provide) clean-up workers with appropriate PPE to wear.

Same thing happened to me ....but it was toxic mold...stachybatrous, aspergillious, penicillian, massive amounts of spores blown into my nose and mouth by idiot government workers who didn't give a damn...but were johnny on the spot to deny liability when restitution was requested...F them!
