We are exposed to all manner of micro-organisms. There presence certainly doesn't reflect an ongoing disease process, internally. We all have cancer cells, yet we all do not suffer from cancer.

Yep...they definitely are worthless. I personally had H1N1. The swab came back negative but when I was referred to a Pulmonologist, he said he was certain that I had it. I also had a patient (who I got the H1N1 from) test negative FOUR times. On the fifth time of swabbing, they did a different kind of test and it came back positive. Obviously, the swabs aren't worth much if the incidence of false negatives or false positives is at 50%+ (the number the Pulmonologist gave me).

Might be a good idea to protect our orifices. More damage could be done sticking a foreign object into our nasal cavity...delivering bacteria and viruses to the incubation spot that wasn't there before.
