Endocrinologist Reflects on Rosiglitazone:

As the FDA processes the vote and discussion from last week's advisory committee meeting on rosiglitazone (Avandia), Cliff Rosen, MD an endocrinologist who has twice voted to keep the diabetes drug on the market dissected what the recent vote meant in a Perspective published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Rosen, a stock holder of GalxoSmithKline, chaired the FDA advisory committee that, in 2007, voted that while the drug appears to carry a higher risk of cardiovascular events, it should continue to be marketed.

"Rosen reported he has no conflicts of interest."

Mayo Clinic calling the kettle black?? Ethics??

Sorry, but this Mayo group has previously been deeply involved in the orthapedic scandal of Zimmer Holdings two years ago. Their devious income was about 4 million dollars. I did attempt to find 2009 and 2010 income directly paid to Mayo from Zimmer but the info was not readily available to gain.

Second, Mayo cancelled a much needed rail line to haul Wyoming low sulfur coal to Lake Michigan port. This would have improved our air quality and reduced the high asthma rate we now have in our children - from power plants.

Complained that noise would disturb their patients about 6 blocks away. NUTZ. I woulda been as quiet as a mouse.

I view Mayo as a hypocritical organization. Just as these so called scientists provide the test results they are paid to deliver, Mayo should not be allowed to be holier than thou when they would love the income AND may have sent out this press release to become part of the validation teams and enjoy the EZ money.

Lastly, they are first in line to charge high dollars for their services. If they wish to set a high standard, why do they not hold the line on prices charged? USA health care costs 17% of our annual work. Why do they not formulate a plan to reduce this to 4% and lead the way by their own actions.
