On June 21 Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced that "he would introduce three bills to comprehensively regulate all genetically engineered products and foods," and require that all such foods should be explicitly labeled.

what happened to good ole Jerseymade milk? I'll stick to it, whole milk, no hormones, no water added to lower fat content, no lactaid, and one consolation, thanks to Louis Pastuer..... to kill any bacteria that may have gotten in it.. and well maybe add some Hersheys syrup.. don't tell me what's in that.I'm gonna pretend Hershey is perfect, but I've heard some bad new about them and unions and wanting to move operations out of the US.... so,, make that NesQuik...

I thought all of this milk stuff was settled years ago -- with the labeling of milk that does not contain the bad stuff (rBGH)...
I'm confused...

Confusion is the state of being that keeps us under control.

If I remember correctly, Monsanto pitched a fit about labeling milk as rBGH-free and wouldn't allow organic farmers and companies to label their milk as such. They claimed it was "deceptive" because it implied that rBGH-free milk was healthier. Can't have the truth exposed!

Thanks for your response.
If I remember correctly, Monsanto pitched a fit about labeling milk as rBGH-free and wouldn't allow organic farmers and companies to label their milk as such.
But the labels still went on to milk ... And the use of rBHG is essentially non-exsistent these days ... Or so I thought...

I don't drink milk (grew up lactose intolerant, though I do consume some milk products now), but it's articles like this that make me so grateful to live out in farm country. Everyone knows everyone here, and we know how the farmers raise and slaughter (or milk, in this case) the animals. No hormones, no antibiotics, no factory farming practices - just farming done the way it was since the dawn of man. And the food tastes so much better than the "food" in the supermarket.
I wish organic food and farming didn't have such a negative "hippie" connotation - it's so much better for your health! Lower prices would help, too, but the farmers have to make a living.

fear not, for as the cost of Oil goes up, so too does the cost of in-organic fertilizers and pesticides, until then, organic farming will always cost more, or until the science of organic farming improves the effectiveness/techniques in organic farming....
I recently saw a story about "farmers markets" where the assumption is they are organically grown, but the only requirements were that it was LOCAL, not organic, and that you need to ask each vendor, if he grew organic or not, sometimes the fruit, is commercially grown overruns that employees are allowed to buy and then sell at farmers markets.....
examples of that are Eufloria Brand Rosesm and Santa Maria Strawberries.... both local grown, and sold at farmers markets, by broken English speaking laborers, but have been grown using fertilizers and pesticides... anyways, i think i'm ranting...
eat well everyone,

You know, I've already said once on the Vine how much I love milk (and dairy as a whole...gotta have my cheese!). I pretty much drink it daily and I've recently been making sure to look for the milk that doesn't have the hormones and the anibiotics and what-not but I don't think I can ever switch to the unpasteurized milk. I know there's a lot of people out there pushing for unpasteurized milk but it just makes me a bit uneasy....

funny aint' it, there is "ultra-pastureized" milk, than can be stored UN-Chilled in a sealed carton for months.. I've heard of people getting sick from un-pasterized milk, and the bacteria, in milk from COWS.. is the big deadly one.. E coli.
which is why you DON'T want food grown downhill from cow pastuers, and why produce is so commonly contaminated with it... and why manure can't be used after seeding of food
This Petition detailed the abnormalities in milk from cows injected with the genetically modified bovine growth hormone (rBGH), commonly known as Posilac. However, the FDA failed to respond to, let alone even acknowledge this Petition.
This is why I think the FDA needs to be taken down a notch or two. They ignore the peole just like the rest of the government.
